Description

The Rose and Crown has always looked slightly out of place on University Avenue, which is exactly what makes it work. The Tudor facade, the heraldic shields, the climbing vines, a bike leaned out front like someone just popped in for a quick one. This watercolor canvas print leans into all of it, the half-timbered exterior painted in clean whites and warm browns, the little stained glass windows, the hand-lettered sign declaring it an English Food and Ale House with complete sincerity. It's a cheerful painting of a cheerful building and neither is trying too hard. The brushwork is tidy and affectionate, the kind you get when the subject genuinely deserves it. The matte canvas finish keeps everything crisp without feeling rigid. Gallery-stretched on a slim 1.25" pine frame and ready to hang out of the box, it's for anyone with a soft spot for the Rose and Crown, for Palo Alto, or for a pub that has committed fully to its bit and never wavered.
