Novalja Palm

Description

A single palm tree in the middle of the riva, a ring of flowers planted around its base, the harbor stretched out behind it with a sailboat on the far shore and the green hillside beyond that. It's the kind of scene that exists in every small Adriatic town and is completely specific to this one. The watercolor palette is soft and slightly overcast, muted greens and pale blues and the small burst of pink from the flowers at the base of the trunk providing just enough color to anchor the whole composition. The palm itself is painted with real attention, the fronds fanning out against a hazy sky, the trunk textured and solid.
