The kind of view that makes you understand immediately why someone built a house here. The terrace on the right, a tree overhead, and then nothing but open Adriatic all the way to a small island sitting in the middle distance, pale and unhurried, the water shifting through every shade of blue and grey depending on where the light hits it. This watercolor canvas print is all about space and quiet, the palette deliberately soft and bleached, creamy whites and pale blues and just enough green from the garden below to remind you there is land underneath all that sky and sea. The brushwork is minimal and confident, knowing exactly what to leave out, which turns out to be most things. The result is one of the more genuinely peaceful paintings in the series. The matte canvas finish handles the delicate, high-key palette beautifully.
