Hotel President

Description

The Hotel President sign has been hanging above this stretch of University Avenue long enough to feel permanent, which is exactly what it looks like here. A barber pole by the door, someone on the sidewalk in no particular hurry, a lamppost, a tree throwing shade over the whole scene, the street carrying on behind it the way it always does. This watercolor canvas print has a warm, slightly bleached midday quality to it, pale yellows and cool greens and that particular Palo Alto light that flattens everything just enough to make it look timeless. It's a painting of a block that most people walk through without looking up, which is a shame, because the Hotel President sign alone is worth a second glance.
