Description

A bollard on the dock, a sailboat out on the water, the island coastline low and warm in the distance, and all around it that particular shade of Adriatic blue that photographs never quite get right but watercolor somehow does. The Novalja riva on a calm afternoon, the harbor doing what harbors do when the weather is good and nobody needs anything from them. The composition is simple and confident, the dock taking up the lower left, the water filling everything else, the sailboat placed just right to keep the eye from drifting out of the frame entirely. The palette is clean and luminous, warm sandstone tones against all those blues, the whole thing feeling bright without being loud. The matte canvas finish handles the flat water washes beautifully.
