Lake Tahoe on a still morning, the water barely moving, the mountains across the lake reduced to soft blue silhouettes in the haze, a few boats out on the water looking small against all that space. The lakeside cabins and dock sit on the left, pines rising above them, the whole scene painted in that quiet, early hour palette before the wind comes up and the lake changes its mind. The watercolor treatment is spare and well judged, lots of white paper doing the work of the pale sky and the still water, the buildings and trees rendered with just enough detail to feel solid without interrupting the overall mood of calm. It's a painting that understands Tahoe on a morning when the lake is glassy and the mountains are barely there, which turns out to be one of its better moods.
